Obama and Cheney Cousins?

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

See the Family Resemblance?  I sure DON’T!

Here’s a humorous tidbit to start your morning off right.  The Houston Chronicle reports that BARACK OBAMA and DICK CHENEY are COUSINS!!!  Can you believe that?  I’m not making this up folks this came right out of the mouth of the Vice-Presidents Wife Lynn! What makes it even funnier is the response from Obama’s spokesman when he states, “Every family has a black sheep.”  Man if this is any indicator of this election season…we are in for a GOOD ONE FOLKS!!!

From Tip Drill to Self Esteem

Nelly

Apparently when Nelly releases his new album, Brass Knuckles, on November 13 he will do so with a community conscious.  MTV.COM reports the rapper will feature a track entitled “Self Esteem” with famed Hip Hop Legend Chuck D, and other songs that will uplift instead of tear down.  Nelly says he was inspired to be more responsible in this album after his recent participation in BET’s Hip Hop vs. America Town Hall Meeting.   He also discussed his views on Don Imus and how he believes Black America did not fully capitalize on the Imus Controversy.  Even though it’s clear that Nelly is trying to put out the fire caused by his tip drill credit card fiasco (don’t act like you don’t know), I kind of think Nelly has a point in some of what he says in the article.  Check it out for yourself. Republican Cat Fight Brewing

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

The Chronicle  is reporting that Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) may  leave the US Senate as soon as 2009. However,  Kay is being extremely mum about her second suspected run for Governor.  Do I hear a cat fight brewing between her, Dewhurst, and possibly Perry if he decides enough is not enough!!!

Congress to Probe “Jena 6″ Case

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Today the US House Judiciary Committee will hear testimony questioning whether the federal government failed in the case of the “Jena 6″.  The new chair of the Judiciary Committee John Conyers (D-MI) called for the hearing after being asked by Houston Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX).  The committee will hear testimony from Professor Charles Ogletree, Rev. Al Sharpton, and Jena 6 families.  The real question of the hearing becomes should the US Attorney have taken action again the District Attorney of Jena? In addition, should the federal government play an intervention role in regards to hate crimes?  I would be interested to see this hearing… sounds like the usual suspects will be sounding off.  My only hope is that this conversation translates to action.

Rosenthal to Retry Slade

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Today, Harris County DA Chuck Rosenthal announced that he would retry ousted TSU President Priscilla Slade.  This comes as no surprise to the Minority Report.  He’s out for Priscilla’s Blood and he’s going to get it. Most likely a change of venue will be filed on this case since everyone in the city has decided whether she is innocent or guilty.  As I stated yesterday, TSU will continue to suffer as long as this dark cloud hangs.  GET ON WITH IT ALREADY!!!!  Either give her life or like old buddy Cinque on Amistad, “Give her FREE!”

Nas

As many of you know this past Summer in Detroit, MI.  the NAACP held a mock funeral for the N-Word!  The Minority Report had the opportunity to help participate in and coordinate this enormous undertaking.  The criticism of the time was simply the burial may be today, but the resurrection would be really soon. MTV Reports:

The n-word it is.

On Friday night at New York’s Roseland Ballroom, Nas announced the title of his next album: He said it will be called Nigga and released in December. A source close to the project confirmed the name on Saturday. (more…)

Mychal Bell, the 17-year-old “Jena 6” teen who was released from jail a week after civil rights leaders, preachers, students and other activists stormed into the tiny Louisiana town to protest his harsh prosecution, is back in jail.

A judge found that Bell had violated his probation for prior juvenile convictions. CNN reports that the troubled teen is now being held at the Renaissance Home for Youth in Alexandria, La. (more…)

Slade Receives Mistrial

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Yesterday Jurors in the State of Texas versus Priscilla Slade case announced that they were deadlocked 6-6 .  State District Judge Brock Thomas declared a mistrial in the case.  Supporters of Slade call it justice while critics say this sets a bad precedent for those that seek to fiscally mismanage state and student dollars.  Most agree that it’s time to move away from this negative publicity that continues to plague the university.  The prosecutors in the case have declared that they are going to retry the ousted President, while others cry to leave well enough alone.  I personally never felt she should have went to jail whether she was found guilty or not.   Sometimes I think the results of justice being carried out can be more damaging then an actual conviction.  Innocent or Guilty,  Priscilla Slade can never again work as an university president or even as an accountant, the damage has been done, and the mountain has fallen.  Let’s move on for the good of the university.
